Gorwydd Caerphilly is a testament to traditional cheesemaking, rooted in over 25 years of history. Named after a Welsh family farm, this cheese represents the revival of a classic British Territorial that was nearly lost. Proud to be among the few who continue this tradition, crafting each cheese by hand The process involves using reclaimed Victorian presses, ensuring that each cheese is formed to perfection and allowed to mature for an extended period of 2-3 months. In Feb 2025, the dairy have made the decision to pasteurise their Gorwydd Carephilly. The careful maturing process is meticulous, requiring each round to be turned daily. This dedication ensures that the cheese develops its signature soft, velvety rind evenly. The result is a cheese that has consistently been recognised with top honours, including Gold and Super Gold awards at the World Cheese Awards and Best British Cheese. Our cheese has also been celebrated at the International Cheese Awards and the Great Taste Awards, where it continues to receive high praise. Gorwydd Caerphilly is uniquely described as ‘three cheeses in one.’ Its edible rind offers a mushroom-like taste, which transitions into a creamy layer that breaks down to reveal a soft, crumbly, and delicate center. This complex profile is what makes our Caerphilly truly special and beloved by cheese enthusiasts. The Gorwydd Caerphilly continues to impress with its exceptional qualities. This cheese maintains its incredible taste, featuring the same luscious velvety rind that encases a rich and creamy breakdown.
